Onsemi NCS32100 Inductive Position Sensor is a full-featured controller and sensor interface for high-resolution and high-accuracy angular sensing when paired with a printed circuit board sensor. This sensor supports a 2.5MHz UART interface for connection to a half-duplex RS-485 driver and battery backup for multi-turn count tracking. The NCS32100 sensor supports flexible configuration to connect various inductive sensor patterns and offers a variety of digital output formats. This sensor provides velocity, temperature, and battery backup measurements. The NCS32100 houses power supply circuitry to support a wide VCC range and battery backup capability. This inductive position sensor is ideally used in industrial automation, angular position and velocity sensing, robotics, and servo control applications.
Introducing the NCS32100, an innovative dual-inductor rotary position sensor that convincingly offers high rotation speeds and high accuracy. The NCS32100 uses a new patented method for inductive position sensing, making it ideal for applications where fast-moving robots and industrial robots are deployed.
While the characteristics of inductive encoders make them very attractive for industrial applications, use cases have historically been limited to low speeds and applications that do not require high accuracy. ON Semiconductor has leveraged its 20+ years of expertise in designing inductive sensors to combine the proven advantages of inductive encoders with the high accuracy and high speeds typically found in mid-range and high-end optical encoders. This enables the NCS32100 (38mm sensor) to provide +/-50 arc seconds accuracy at 6,000 RPM. With some sacrifice in accuracy, the NCS32100 can support speeds up to 100,000RPM.

Several key features of inductive sensors make them ideal for industrial applications, where dust, oil, temperature and humidity have little effect on their accuracy. The NCS32100 device also features an integrated self-calibration routine to account for mechanical misalignment of the sensor. High configurability allows for a variety of printed circuit board (PCB) sensor designs, enabling original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to configure and differentiate their solutions. The integrated MCU includes non-volatile flash memory (NVM) and a configurable interface to communicate with the host processor.
